This new year resolve to look after your hair
New year resolutions
- Start a healthy diet – Time to cut out the carbs and concentrate on protein. In fact, eat healthily and you’re almost certain to strengthen your hair whilst ensuring it has a healthy shine. Eat lots of lean meat, fruit, vegetables and fish!
- Cut out the alcohol. OK so you don’t have to stop completely but if you maintain the pace of Christmas partying then you’ll end up with dry, brittle hair and possibly even start to see actual hair loss.
- Ditch the man bun. If you’ve got long hair than either get it cut or wear it au naturelle. Tying it up into a tight bun not only shows questionable taste but it could also be doing permanent damage to your hair. Traction alopecia is exactly as it sounds.
- Take up yoga. Whilst yoga in itself probably won’t stem any shedding it will help you relax and take your mind of the pace of life. Stress and anxiety are real causes of hair loss as well as many other potential health issues.
- Stop smoking. This is a perennial favourite. The general health benefits are obvious but smoking also damages the hair by drying it out and adding toxins to the blood stream. If you can’t just stop then consider an alternative to help wean you off.
I’m too sexy for my hair…
How to rock the bald look
- Don’t hang on to what you have left. There’s nothing worse than trying to grow the remaining hair long. Male pattern baldness means you’ll have a massive contrast between the bald patch and the hair around it and worst of all you might get the urge to comb it over. Just don’t!
- Moisturise your scalp regularly, particularly if you’re out in the sun but don’t overdo it on a night out. No one wants to be dazzled by an overly reflective bonce.
- Hats are best avoided in circumstances other than cold weather outdoors. Nothing screams “I’m trying to hide my baldness” than a hat worn inappropriately indoors.
- Experiment with facial hair. Don’t go mad but if you’re going to rock a new look then why not give everyone something to focus on than just your head hair. According to most surveys bearded men and bald men are the most attractive to the opposite sex.
- Scalp micropigmentation (SMP). The perfect way to roll back the years. The treatment is quick, non-invasive and will leave you with a buzz cut that will look sporty, chic and is maintenance free. It’s also a great way of adding volume to thinning hair.

Wen clears its name
Independently commissioned clinical study
Now the Company is going public with an independently commissioned clinical study which it claims will exonerate it of all the allegations. Put simply the study finds the products to be safe despite the insistence that some of the ingredients can cause harm. The implication is that the claimants in the case would have suffered hair loss anyway and were seeking to blame the Wen product range in a kind of self-diagnosis. It’s true that female hair loss is perhaps more common than most people think but also there were over 200 women from over 40 different states claiming that the products caused them a range of problems from burning scalp to hair loss and it’s hard to shake the view that there’s no smoke without fire. Regardless of the findings of the study it would appear that neither side had the stomach for a fight and settled out of court for a reported $26 million. Also at this stage the FDA continues to investigate the product range so although things are looking more positive for the Wen brand and Chaz Dean they’re not out of the woods yet.Always test new products on your skin.
As a rule, it’s always best to be careful with any new product we use on our hair or skin. It’s possible to have an allergic reaction to something we’ve never tried before. Most dermatologists will recommend testing out a new skin or hair care product on a small patch on the arm or leg to see if there is any kind of reaction.Home Remedies for Nail Psoriasis

New Year, New You?
How can we help
Here at His Hair Clinic we can help you transform your image and tackle your hair loss issues with a number of treatments. Our founders have tried all the treatments themselves personally and this helps inform the consultation to ensure that our advice is tailored just for you. We offer a broad range of treatments for hair loss from oral and topical medications to hair laser therapy and hair transplants. One of the most popular procedures being adopted by our clients is Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP).Scalp Micropigmentation
Our practitioners go through a rigorous training process to learn how to apply organic inks to the scalp with fine microneedles. The whole process requires two to three sessions at a couple of hours each. The resulting crew cut style takes years off the recipient and the look is clean cut and as acceptable in the board room as the sport’s field. The secret is in the application over more than one session which allows our experts assess how the inks have taken and to create a 3d layered look. Most of our clients report an immediate improvement in confidence levels and claim that even close friends and family can’t distinguish SMP from the real thing. If you want to find out more about this and other treatments we offer to help you roll back the years then complete the form on the right or make an appointment for a free confidential consultation on +44(0)845 604 46182017 – the year of the hair transplant
Some of those who went public in 2017
- James Nesbitt. He didn’t get cold feet when it came to opting for the procedure. Totally satisfied with the results he attributes getting his confidence levels up and career back on track to a successful transplant.
- Wayne Rooney. Hardly a year goes by without the Everton and ex England international having a transplant. He’s clearly happy to talk about it to the press though given all the publicity he’s had. Let’s just say it’s better coverage for Wayne than some of his other off pitch activities.
- Never one to shy away from publicity the Big Brother star Calum Best was all over the press earlier in the year as he told the world about the third of his transplants and the £25,000 he’s spent to get just the look he wants.
- Gareth Gates crowning glory has been disappearing for years, along with his confidence apparently so it was great to see him back in full force in October this year, proudly exhibiting the results of his successful transplant.
- Joe Swash didn’t go public technically. It was actually his girlfriend Stacey Solomon who opened up about his procedure on Loose Women. Apparently, Joe wasn’t too impressed about the slip. More a question of loose tongues than loose women.
Sale bargains to buy if you love your hair
Don’t buy
- Powerful hair dryers or anything that styles your hair using heat such as straighteners or tongs. Heat damage is one of the most common ways of drying out the hair and causing temporary damage. Sustained overuse can even result in hair loss. Try blow drying on a cooler setting.
- Reduced alcohol. With the possible exception of New Year’s Eve it’s best to lay off the booze as it makes your hair limp, dry and brittle. Not to mention the damage it’s doing to the rest of your body.
- Hair accessories. Not all are bad but avoid anything that really pulls at your hair such as elastic hair bands. Extensions are particularly bad news and if fitted badly can result in traction alopecia
Do Buy
- Stress reduction toys. Stress balls, scalp massagers and finger fidgets can be picked up for next to nothing after Christmas but could have a surprisingly big impact. One of the main causes of hair loss is stress/anxiety so anything you can do to lower the tension levels has got to be good.
- Natural conditioners. Avoid anything with chemicals and use it to get the sheen back in to your hair after the party season.
- Christmas puddings and mince pies. The shelves will be heaving with these unsold Christmas treats. You won’t just be picking a bargain up but it’s also great for your follicles as they’re full of vitamins, biotins, suphur and iron which all contribute to a healthy scalp.

Thinning Hair? Here’s how to fight back
Causes of hair loss in men
Although all of us would ideally keep all our hair on our head, there are plenty of factors which play a role in hair loss. Male pattern baldness accounts for approximately ninety five percent of hair loss cases - it is something that is estimated to affect up to half of all men by the time they reach the age of fifty years old. Men who suffer from male pattern baldness will often notice hair receding around their temples, whereas others may notice hair thinning on the crown of their head. The condition is thought to be hereditary and is unavoidable. Other hair loss factors include stress, rough handling of the hair and a poor diet. Conditions such as telogen effluvium can also affect and speed up hair loss. Fortunately though, although men do appear to be highly self-conscious about thinning hair, an online survey found that more than eighty percent of women said that hair loss didn’t actually affect how much they were attracted to their partner.Ways to thicken, disguise and style thinning hair
If you’re not yet ready to embrace a new look of a shaved head, then you may find the following tips useful;- Treat a receding hairline as soon as possibly by retaining hair and slowing down hair loss with treatments such as Minoxidil and Finasteride
- Improve your diet to make sure you are getting plenty of the right nutrients to keep your hair strong and healthy
- Choose effective styling weapons such as volumising hair mousse
- Treat dandruff and other scalp conditions which could be triggering hair loss and interfering with follicle function
- Quit smoking, a study held in Taiwan found that smoking can actually speed up hair loss in men
- Consider treatments such as a hair transplant, or scalp micro pigmentation (SMP) to maintain the look of a healthy head of hair for longer
7 Effective ways to Manage Menopause
Some women feel that MENOPAUSE is the beginning of the end. But it is not true. Menopause is one of the milestones of womanhood and post the initial difficulties, life can be smooth sailing again. The difficulties caused by the hormonal shift can be managed well using homeopathic treatment. Homeopathic treatment for menopause includes evaluating the symptoms and providing remedies based on the totality of the symptoms.
Menopause affects every woman differently but it doesn’t set in overnight. The change occurs over a span of few months or even years. The onset duration as well as completion of this whole process of menopause is subjective and no one can define a particular time limit for the entire process. For some women, menopause is a cakewalk as they sail through it smoothly without any complaints while for some it becomes an extremely painful experience.
During menopause your body goes through some gross hormonal changes. Most women experience physical and emotional symptoms like erratic periods, hot flushes, sudden mood swings, weight gain, changes in the breast, drynessin the vagina and the cervix, increased incidence of urinary tract infections, hair fall, weak bones and memory issues. However, all women may not experience all the symptoms.
Whether you are experiencing all or none of these symptoms here are a few tips which will help women sail through menopause easily:
- Around menopause, the estrogen levels in your body fall leading to a reduction in the bone matrix, causing weak bones. Women should take calcium and Vitamin D supplements BEFORE they hit menopause so that their bones have sufficient calcium to be able to endure the demineralization that follows menopause
- Regular exercise or physical activity helps in stabilizing the hormonal ratio of oestrogen and progesterone. This in turn relieves you from symptoms like hot flushes, mood swings and weight gain
- The moment you feel that mood swings and sudden pangs of anxiety are taking a toll over you, try opting for yoga and meditation. These help you calm down and act as wonderful mood stabilizers
- Your diet becomes important when you are approaching menopause. Add more proteins and fiber to your diet, reduce fats and sugars. These simple changes will give you huge benefits
- Reduce or limit the caffeine intake during the day. Avoiding alcohol is the wisest choice that you can make if you are nearing or going through menopausal symptoms
- Taking part ingroup activities or playing memory games have shown to improve memory as well as sleep issues
- Hot flushes are the commonest menopausal complaints seen in women. To combat them one can opt for light cotton clothes. Make sure that the clothes you wear give you good aeration and keep a table fan close to your bed or desk in the office.
Homeopathy and Menopause:
Homoeopathy provides quick and effective relief from symptoms of menopause. When you seek homoeopathic treatment for menopause, the physician will first consider the totality of the symptoms, including the physical, mental and emotional state and then select the most appropriate remedy for your case.
Dr. A.K. Dwivedi, Dr. Rajesh Barve and many such Homeopaths of international repute have successfully treated many women and relieved them of their menopausal miseries at Welcome Cure.

The importance of getting the right advice about hair loss
Hair loss solutions
In order to get the correct advice regarding your hair loss, you need to work with your doctor or speak to a specialist hair loss clinic to determine the true cause of your hair loss before you can decide on the appropriate and most effective treatment options. Many patients are simply dealing with hair loss as a result of genetics and inherited conditions. In this situation, it is sometimes recommended that patients seek injections of vitamin B complexes, topical solutions of Minoxidil and hair-growth laser treatments. In combination each of these therapies can be highly effective and by adding in plasma rich protein (PRP) injections, patients can further enhance their results.Talk to an expert
Before beginning treatment, it is crucial that you pin point the cause of your hair loss and whether the condition truly is genetic in your case. Sometimes a doctor may suggest blood tests along with an extensive look into your medical history. Other more rare, yet completely valid causes of hair loss include; vitamin deficiencies, new medicines, recent trauma or surgery, stress and change in weight or hormone levels. Keep in mind though, that it is completely normal to lose up to one hundred strands of hair on a daily basis. However if you are beginning to feel that you are noticing more hair in your shower drain, on your pillow or after brushing your hair then it may be time for a professional evaluation. We'd be delighted to offer your a free confidential consultation with one of our friendly experts. Simply complete the form on the right or call us on +44(0)845 604 4618Why you can’t grow a beard and what you can do about it
Beard Transplants
If you’re still not content and dream of growing a thicker beard, you can consider a beard transplant. A beard transplant is very similar to a usual hair transplant, where hair follicles are implanted into bald patches and sparse areas of facial hair. It is a fairly straightforward procedure which requires minimal downtime and can work wonders for thickening up your beard, moustache and sideburns. The procedure is quite expensive; however results are permanent and when done by an experienced well-reputed surgeon, appear completely natural. In fact, you can actually begin to shave just two weeks after the procedure as hair begins to grow immediately. If you would like to know more about beard transplants, speak to a hair loss expert for more information. How to Stop Sweaty Hands

Top tips for hair loss
Causes of hair loss
In order to understand how we can deal with hair loss better, we need to know what’s actually causing it in the first place. Factors such as stress, a poor diet, medications, ill health, age and hereditary conditions all affect the hair cycle. These factors can contribute to hair falling out, a decrease in the thickness and the quality of hair and even a reduction in the density of follicles. How to deal with hair loss
Both men and women who are suffering from hair loss are advised to initially get more exercise, reduce the amounts of stress they are exposing themselves to and to improve their daily diet before moving on to clinical treatments. Although there are oral and topical medications available to tackle hair loss, they must be taken continuously in order to sustain results. While you are waiting to see results from the above mentioned methods, you can also use clever disguising techniques to make the most of what you have. Use volumising products such as mousse and powders to lift the roots and give the illusion of thicker hair or consider scalp micropigmentation. The best bet is probaby to see a specialist hair loss clinic if you're getting concerned as they'll be able to advise on the treatments that are right for you.Rare Hair Loss Study On Women Shows Promise
News from Australia reaches us that study of a hair loss treatment aimed at women has demonstrated some efficacy.. we look closer.
Female Pattern Hair Loss
Despite the fact that pattern hair loss affects as many women as men the problem receives significantly less attention. It is certainly true that women are far more likely to address the problem, either through creative hair-styling or wigs. In the main, it is not a subject taken on in the media...although 2017 has probably been encouraging in that regard. Women in the public eye have used social media to discuss their own battle with hair loss and their stories were picked up by the national media. What is sure is that treatment for pattern hair loss is even tougher for women than it is for men, only one of the two FDA approved hair loss treatments is suitable for women. But there might be some hope on the horizon.Aussie Rules
The Medical Press report that an Australian doctor, Rodney D. Sinclair (pictured), from Melbourne has had some success treating women for pattern baldness. He treated them with a routine of taking 0.25mg of minoxidil and 25mg of spironoclactone. Minoxidil is well known to us as one of the FDA approved hair loss treatments. Spirolactone was a new one however, a quick dip into drugs.com tells us it is a diuretic, something used to treat fluid retention by stopping you absorbing too much sodium and from your potassium levels getting low.Positive Results
Of the 100 women who took part in the study eight reported side-effects, the majority were mild but two developed urticaria and came off the study. According to Dr. Sinclair "Most women noticed a reduction in shedding after three months and an increase in hair density at six months."HIS Hair Clinic
Because we picked this article up from a medical journal the report on the efficacy of Dr Sinclair's treatment is a little impenetrable to the untrained eye, which includes ours. See it for yourself here. We are very aware that it only requires a modest improvement in "hairs per inch" for a treatment to be declared a success. Just the same, we applaud the ingenuity of Dr Sinclair - in truth we would love to know what inspired him to mix minoxidil with the diuretic in the first place. We are also delighted to read a report featuring work aimed specifically at helping women through hair loss. Hangovers and hair loss
How alcohol affects hair
- Think of how you feel after a night out. Along with the headache you’d probably say you feel flat. Well guess what, so does your hair. The natural springiness and gloss will definitely be gone in the morning.
- You know that mouth like the bottom of a bird cage feeling in the morning. That’s alcohol dehydrating you and if your body doesn’t have enough water then your hair is one of the first things to suffer. After a few nights of that your hair is likely to lose all its moisture, become very brittle and prone to damage, such as split ends. Whilst it’s unlilkely to be a permanent problem it might take a while to sort out.
- Hair Loss – yes you can actually lose hair from over indulging. OK the odd party or a few glasses of sherry aren’t going to see you going bald but continuous and habitual drinking can lead to liver damage and one of the first signs of this is hair loss.
Hair loss through drinking could be a warning sign
Hair and skin are pretty good barometers of general health so you shouldn’t be surprised if too much partying ends up with your hair looking limp and lifeless. If you think that you might be actually losing hair as a result of drinking though then it’s definitely time to make an appointment with the GP to diagnose any other underlying health problems such as cirrhosis.A cup of tea to prevent hair loss?
How does it work?
Each of the hair care products are infused with combinations of different teas, such as white, green, black and even African red bush tea. They claim the tea has anti-inflammatory and soothing properties on the skin and is colour safe, oil-free and suitable for all kinds of hair textures. Pai-Shau products are suitable for most skin types too, as many women with sensitive skin have found they weren’t suffering from any dryness or allergic reactions as a result of the product. Tea has the unique ability to both stimulate and soothe the scalp simultaneously, which can encourage hair growth yet still keep the scalp calm so that existing and newer hair can flourish. Tea also comes with the added bonus of caffeine, which is used as a natural suppressor of DHT (a hormone which has been found responsible for hair loss). Is it safe to try tea-infusion for hair care?
Although there is absolutely no harm in trying tea infused hair products, you need to remember that this method has not been clinically proven to be able to treat hair loss. If you are suffering from hair thinning or hair fall; it’s best to speak to a hair loss expert for a professional diagnosis and guidance. There are a number of clinically proven treatments ranging from medication to Scalp Micropigmentation and if you've got a hair loss problem a delay in seeking proper advice could result in irreversible problems. How to Give Yourself A Face and Eye Massage for Younger Skin

Clue Found In Hunt For Hair Follicle Regeneration
Research into the way hair follicles are regenerated, or not, when a wound is healing have zeroed in on the differences between humans and mice and spotted what might be the key. We look closer.
Wound Regeneration
There is a distinct difference between humans and mice in how they recover from a wound, at least in regards to how the hair follicles in the affected area regenerate. When a mouse has a wound the healing process sees a two or three fold increase in the number of new hair follicles produced, whereas in a human the wound will simply scar with no new hair follicles forming. Clearly, identifying the trigger might present opportunities to provide therapeutic treatments for humans suffering from hair and scalp disorders.Key Growth Factor Identified
The team of researchers, from Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, were investigating the difference and noticed that a key growth factor, called Fgf9, is only found in humans in very limited quantities - when this same factor is over-expressed in mice there was a two to three fold increase in the number of new hair follicles produced. George Cotsarelis MD, professor and chair of dermatology, said "The findings help explain why humans don't regenerate their hair after wounding. The study also points us to a way to treat wounds and grow hair."Is It A Cure For Hair Loss?
The work of the Pennsylvania State team suggests that there might be the possibility of a hair loss treatment that can be derived from their results. But if Fgf9 is to be effective it would need to be timed to precisely work in cahoots with the wounding response.HIS Hair Clinic
This piece of research struck us immediately as a cut above the norm. Cutting edge stuff. Being able to study the neural pathways and interfering with their processes is the result of some great advances in technology. Results like those from Pennsylvania should encourage us all that the future hold something more promising for hair loss sufferers than coffee flavoured shampoo. Has the beard trend finally come to an end?
What the survey revealed
There were 2000 men who took part in the recent survey to uncover attitudes towards facial hair. While beards still appear reasonably popular, the results of the survey suggest the tide is quickly changing. Out of the respondents, a quarter claimed they would be starting the New Year with a fresh, clean shaven look. This was closely followed by men claiming they preferred to carry off stubble, rather than a full beard. This could of course, be partially down to the fact that many men find it difficult to actually grow a full beard. Therefore, they either opt for a freshly shaven look, or they leave the little stubble they are able to grow. This means the beard trend may not be coming to an end, it could just be many men struggle to grow one.Your facial hair options
Not every man can grow a thick beard, but there are treatments out there which can help. Beard transplants have become especially popular. They may be expensive, but they are effective. They can also help you to achieve the exact look you’re hoping for. Another option for those who either want to make their thin beard appear more volumized, or achieve a stubble effect, would be SMP. This treatment, more commonly used on the scalp is long-lasting and it’s a lot cheaper than a transplant. It also produces really realistic results. Overall, it’s unlikely the beard trend is coming to an end, but obviously only time will tell. In the meantime, men looking to achieve perfect facial hair can either opt for a beard transplant or SMP.How to Treat a Sore Big Toe

Is Harry losing it?
New pictures reveal tell-tale signs of balding
The warning to Harry comes after recent pictures revealed the prince is starting to develop a noticeable bald patch on the crown of the head. He also appears to be developing noticeable gaps around the front of the hairline. The expert claims if Harry doesn’t act now, he’ll lose the majority of his hair, just like Wills, within 10 years. Now that he’s engaged to the beautiful American actress Meghan Markle, it’s likely the prince will be more focused on hanging onto his full head of hair for as long as possible. Harry’s ever-increasing baldness does appear to be genetic. He’s definitely following in the footsteps of his father and older brother. So, is it possible to slow down and prevent genetic male pattern baldness? What options does Harry have to cling onto his locks?
While genetic male pattern baldness cannot be prevented, there are ways to slow it down. There’s also treatment options to cover up the problem such as a hair transplant or SMP. Hair transplants are a common solution for celebrity males. Wayne Rooney was the first to start the trend, but there have been many famous men who have gone on to have the procedure. If a hair transplant doesn’t appeal to you, SMP could be a cheaper and easier alternative. It can be used to cover up the signs of balding, making the hair appear thicker than it really is. It’s a long-lasting, affordable solution and as it’s non-invasive, it could be the best option for the majority of men seeking an effective cover-up solution.10 Useful Tips for Taking Care of Your Dog’s Paws

World Class Scalp Micropigmentation in Bristol
Having recently extended the company footprint with the opening of two clinics in the SouthWest of England we have received our first letter of thanks from the region...
All About Alex
Alex Baynes, professional artist by trade, recently opened the latest HIS clinic. We wrote about it at the time (see the original article here), along with some detail on Alex's back story - his route from being a client at the London clinic and on to becoming a trainee practitioner, where he stood out from the crowd the moment he had a needle in his hand. All the way to today, which has him managing two locations that between them open up a huge section of the population to HIS Hair by bringing a clinic within easy reach in the beautiful south west of England.Expertise and Dedication
When it comes to great SMP there is no substitute for experience. It is why HIS Hair trainees spend so long acquiring their skills at one of our established clinics before they are ever considered for working in clinic alone. That can happen when the existing incumbent practitioner takes a break for whatever reason, giving one of the experienced hands the chance to travel and the opportunity to talk the talk in another city, or even another continent. So to reach that level the practitioner needs to display much more than the ability to deliver perfect SMP - they need to possess all the attributes required to operate their own business, from the administration to the front of house meet and greet. Unlike so much of the more aggressive competition, looking to grow as fast as possible, it is not enough to be simply willing to have a go and being prepared to pay the franchise fees.Ship Shape and Bristol Fashion
It is a funny old saying, one that dates back to times when Britain's Navy was the engine for the industrial revolution. Bristol, sits in the estuary, or very near it, of the River Avon with one of the most variable tidal flows in the world. The water level can change by over 30 feet between tides leaving many boats beached at low tide. So any ship planning to pass through Bristol would need to be of extremely sturdy construction and the goods in the hold securely stowed. The phrase has largely fallen out of use but encapsulates nicely how we feel about our new Bristol location. We have no doubt that it will very quickly establish itself as a centre of excellence, not least because of the dedication and skill of the latest recruit Alex. Our faith in Alex was well founded, not simply faith either - we had the benefit of amazing feedback from the trainers during his time schooling with us. It is the prerogative of any client to choose not to share their before and after pictures. We are always grateful when they do as it gives encouragement and confidence to so many coming behind. But if they are not willing to share we completely respect their choice... especially when they take the trouble to write and share their experience. The testimony below is copied, exactly as it was received, from one of Alex's clients: I had been losing my hair since the start of my twenty’s and it really affected me as a person i would feel like staying in and not going out it held me back in so many ways so when I found out about HIS HAIR CLINIC I thought I had found the answer. I had known about HIS HAIR for about 3 years before making the decision and going for it. I had a phone consultation first of all with Paul from Birmingham and followed that up with a visit to Birmingham to see Marcus all the staff where very welcoming and understanding Initially I thought I would have to travel to Birmingham but they told me that there was a clinic in Bristol closer to where I live in Devon which was a lot easier for me. Alex was my practitioner and the first time I met him he was very welcoming and had a lot of time for me which made me feel at ease. First session we discussed hairline and what would be suitable for me I had a clear idea in mind and stuck to it.I was so impressed with how it went I couldn’t wait for the second treatment. Second treatment was to add more density And to make it look more full Alex was an absolute gent and and a really nice guy just talking to him about his life and the way he came through this proccess made me feel like I was not alone and that he knew what I was going through I know if I have any trouble now or in the future he’s only a phone call away For me I consider him as a friend now even tho I only spent a short time with him the way he has made me feel about myself is something I never thought I would feel again and for that I thank him Overall the experience was a good one scary at first but once you have made the decision to kick in and go for it you will never look back and I can say without a doubt this is the best thing I have ever doneHIS Hair Clinic
Of course we knew all about Alex's talents before he opened his doors, but it is great to read it from a client, the horse's mouth so to speak. Definitive proof we hope that there is no need to risk treatment at another local clinic, or drive a long way to the next nearest HIS Hair Clinic. A ten year battle
After ten years of battling with hair loss and trying every product and method which was commercially available to him at the time, Long turned to a hair loss clinic for a permanent solution. Spending ten thousand pounds on a hair transplant and waiting more than one year for some visible results, Long is finally satisfied with his appearance and feels that his self-confidence is now restored. For his wife, Sophie Long, the ten thousand that he spent was worth every penny just so that she could get back the happy and confident man that she had married twelve years ago.Is there a cheaper hair loss alternative?
Although hair loss transplants do offer men the chance to restore their youthful looks and a thick head of hair, they can be extremely expensive. Foreign hair loss clinics do offer cheaper hair transplant options, however if the procedure is done incorrectly or by an inexperienced surgeon, there is a high risk of the results being unnatural and an already self-conscious patient feeling devastated.Scalp micro pigmentation (SMP) is a much cheaper hair loss solution which is ideal for men who can embrace the clean cut look. The procedure is simple and involves a specialist technician depositing pigments onto the upper dermis of the scalp, so that the pigments resemble a freshly shaved head. The results are permanent and appear completely natural with virtually zero maintenance.
GQ Magazine Reviews Hair Loss Treatments
A remarkable thing, a balanced article in a high circulation magazine reviewing hair loss and the available treatments. Worthy of a closer look we thought.
Help! I'm Losing My Hair
If you are anything like us you will spend a fair portion of your time reading articles about hair loss, or more specifically treatments for hair loss. You quickly realise that most are advertorials promoting some service or another. The focus of the article will be on the particular element of the hair loss process, there are hundreds, that their product claims to address - and in so doing will return you magically to something like your former condition. So when GQ Magazine ran an article titled "Help! I'm losing my hair" we were pretty sure we knew what to expect... another useless addition to the list, maybe a caffeine infused laser comb with stem cell properties, designed to part you from your money. An Early Departure
The article immediately sets out on a different course, beginning with a list of handsome bald actors and inviting the reader, if suffering from hair loss, to try not to worry. It goes on to warn sufferers from male pattern baldness, the genetically inherited form of hair loss, that there is no such thing as a cure. Written by Dr Nick Knight (not the same Nick Knight that used to open the batting for the England cricket team, we checked), a practicing family doctor, the refreshing approach, having offered a reality check on the causes of hair loss, goes on to cover the various treatments in offer in the same pragmatic and honest style.Treatments
Alongside the usual suspects, more of that in a moment, there are a couple of pieces of advice that you do not usually see - We particularly like that Dr Knight put "Grooming" at No. 1. in his list. Embracing the situation, as he puts it, certainly makes sense if achievable. Also on his list, at No. 3, is "Watch and Wait." As Dr Knight puts it "Sometimes the best plan in health is to do nothing. Hair loss included." We were, naturally, delighted to see that Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) made his list too. Albeit under the title "Scalp Tattoos" which we would flag as misleading for someone with no knowledge of what we do. But we accept that SMP is the HIS Hair Clinic's trademark and as such possibly did not belong in an article where no product or brand is promoted.HIS Hair Clinic
GQ reaches a lot of young men, an informative and balanced article on hair loss will be a rare thing for them. We applaud the magazine and thank Dr Knight for their contribution to improving understanding. Hair Loss Help From A Shampoo?
Although it is marketed as being used to treat dandruff, there are suggestions that ketoconazole might be of use to hair loss sufferers. We look closer.
Ketoconazole
Originally discovered in 1976 by a team working in Belgium for Jansenn Pharmaceutica, ketoconozale was originally bought to market as a potent oral antifungal treatment, the first of it's kind and gratefully adopted. Doctors would prescribe oral ketoconazole as a first line systemic antifungal of choice, effective against a range of difficult to treat fungi such as Candida, Histoplasma, Blastomyces amd Coccidioides. It has since been replaced by other agents from the azole "family" such as itrazole. One of the principal reasons for the market moving on to other treatments was the understanding that oral ketoconazole had a problem side-effect. The benefits of it blocking the enzymes causing the fungi were outweighed by the same processes blocking the conversion of cholesterol to steroid hormones. In short, there was a potential for serious liver damage.Topical Treatment
Fortunate then that the topical version of ketonconazole shows absolutely none of these side-effects when used in it's topical form. It is still prescribed by doctors for seborrhic dermatitis, better known as dandruff but maybe less understood is how unpleasant the condition can be become at it's extremes. It is also the active ingredient in many ointments and creams used to treat famliar fungal conditions like athletes foot, ringworm and thrush.Shampoo for Hair Loss?
It is true that there is some evidence to suggest that ketoconazole shampoo might be of benefit to people suffering with hair loss by helping to slow the process. The theory is that the antifungal properties reduce the scalp microflora which might otherwise inflame the follicles and cause hair loss. You can buy the 1% strength version over the counter but would need to get a prescription for the 2% version.HIS Hair Clinic
It is a shame more research has not been done but the science behind this is a lot more convincing than the case for caffeine. Just the same, unless you have a condition, like dandruff, that would require you to use it more often we would suggest you restrict use to once a week. If you would like to discuss your hair loss solution with one of our friendly team of experts simply complete the contact form at the side of this page, or click here to find your nearest clinic.Shave and Save in Japan
Where did the idea come from?
The president of the Tetora chain in Japan is actually a bald man himself, who perhaps in sympathy to his fellow balding citizens came up with the clever idea. In fact, it was actually conceived two years ago and has been such a hit that the company now has a bald mascot, which is fashioned after the company’s president himself. Naturally, some customers do feel apprehensive about having their hair loss judged by some strangers at the hotels front desk; however the cleaning staffs actually claim there is less hair to clean up after a bald customer - which is definitely worth the five hundred yen discount per night! Many foreigners have felt that this was an excellent marketing promotion for the small hotel chain, and should be something that every business in the UK should be implementing immediately. However if you’re feeling too shy to accept the discount on the basis of your thinning hair, perhaps you could consider scalp micro pigmentation (SMP) as a compromise? What is SMP?
SMP is a permanent hair loss procedure which creates the look of a buzz cut. Pigments are deposited onto the scalp with stunningly realistic results. For more information about SMP, speak to a hair loss expert about what the procedure is and whether it would be suitable for you.Home Remedies for Dry Scalp
Many people experience the discomfort of a dry scalp. Do not consider yourself to be a sole sufferer. The scalp contains sebaceous glands that produce oil to keep it moisturized. When the production of oil is reduced, the scalp becomes too dry. This can occur for a number of reasons. Some common causes include eczema, […]

What is alopecia and can it be treated?
- Androgenic alopecia, this is most commonly referred to as male or female pattern baldness. It is a common form of hair loss and is actually hereditary.
- Telogen Effluvium, this hair shedding is often sudden and can be linked back to a trauma or a sudden shock to the body. In women, telogen effluvium can strike after childbirth, thankfully hair growth does eventually return to normal.
- Anagen Effluvium, this hair loss is commonly associated with chemotherapy and hair usually tends to grow back once medication is stopped.
- Alopecia Areata, a condition in which the body’s immune system attacks its own hair follicles and causes patchy hair loss around the body.
- Alopecia Totalis and Alopecia Universalis, the first is the condition in which there is a total loss of hair on the scalp, the latter is when there is a total loss of body hair – this includes the eyelashes and nose hairs even. Both conditions are caused by an attack on the immune system.
- Scarring Alopecia, this is a very rare form of alopecia where scar tissue replaces hair follicles. This means that hair loss is permanent and hair cannot grow back at all, unfortunately the cause of scarring alopecia is still unclear.
A Permanent Solution To Alopecia
Currently there are numerous therapies and procedures available which all claim to be able to treat or manage hair loss. These include low level laser therapy and proven medications such as minoxidil and finasteride. Another increasingly popular treatment is scalp micro pigmentation (SMP), which is a guaranteed, permanent and low maintenance safe treatment option, available to everyone. SMP works by depositing pigments onto the upper dermis of the skin and accurately replicates real shaven hair follicles. The end result is an illusion of real hair and causes no damage to existing hair follicles which ensures that there is the possibility for your hair to grow back in the future. To learn more about the different forms of alopecia and SMP, speak to your doctor or a hair loss expert for more information.Homemade Peel-Off Masks for Glowing, Spotless Skin

One in three men feel the need to look good on social media
An increasing number of men are opting for cosmetic surgery
The need to look good on social media has led many men to undergo cosmetic surgery procedures. In 2016, approximately 2500 British men went under the knife, while a staggering number of others opted for non-surgical procedures. It’s not just standard nose job procedures, or Botox, which are proving popular either. There’s been an increase in the number of men opting to undergo a beard transplant. Facial hair has become extremely important for men today and it’s a trend which isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. Unfortunately not all men can grow a beard. What options are available?
Beard transplants work much in the same way as a hair transplant on the scalp. Hair is taken from a donor site, before being implanted into the chin and jaw area. The patient can choose what style of beard they would like, and it creates an almost “instant beard” effect. Scalp Micorpigmentation is another great way for men with thinning hair on top to get a cool anti ageing look. SMP doesn’t involve real hair, but it can help to create a highly realistic stubble effect. Tiny permanent ink pigments are inserted into the scalp, creating the appearance of hair follicles which is indistinguishable from the real thing. Pollution damages hair as well as the environment
How does pollution damage the hair?
Pollution caused by smoke and chemicals has been known to contribute towards hair loss. Different types of pollution affect the hair in different ways. Cigarette smoke for example, can cause damage to the hair strands, while smoke from fires can significantly harm the hair’s follicles. Even dust in the home can have a negative impact on your hair’s health, as it causes the scalp to become scaly and itchy. If left untreated, it could even trigger hair loss conditions such as alopecia areata. Smog has become a particular worry, as the small particles contained within the thick fog penetrate deep inside the skin causing irritation to the scalp. When you combine that with the cold, harsh winter weather which already makes the scalp itchy and red, it poses a greater risk of hair damage. How to protect the hair against pollution
The good news is, it is possible to protect the hair against pollution damage in winter. You can start by keeping the hair nourished with antioxidant supplements, and deep conditioning the hair on a weekly basis. Collagen supplements and oil capsules can also be great for reversing any damage already caused by pollution particles. However, if severe damage has been done, it’s best to seek advice from a hair specialist. They will be able to determine the best course of treatment to resolve temporary hair loss and get your hair back to its best. Overall, pollution can have a devastating impact on the hair and it’s not easy to avoid exposure to the damaging particles. However, taking extra-care of your hair during the colder winter months can help to fight off hair loss and minimise the damage caused.4 Hair Loss Triggers You Should Be Aware Of
It is all to easy to panic when discovering your hair has started to recede, but it is essential to identify the cause.
The Usual Suspect
The sad truth is that for the massive majority of us the reason we are losing our hair is obvious... a quick glance through a family photo album will confirm that you are the victim of your genes. That unavoidable bullet encapsulated at the moment of your creation within your DNA. You are a mix of both of your parents genes and you can inherit the hair loss gene from either parent, or even both. That said, while genetics are responsible for over 90% of cases of hair loss they are far from the only possible trigger. We take a look at some others that you might no be so familiar with but which would need ruling out before deciding on how to proceed.Post Partum Hair Loss
With the advance of social media and the willingness of celebrities to share their every intimate moment we have seen a better understanding of this type of hair loss... which affects women in the period of time after giving birth. As their bodies return to a situation where they are no longer required to sustain a baby in the womb the affect on some of the "less important" processes, like growing fingernails and hair, can take a back seat for a while. The situation is temporary and will almost invariably see the patient return to a full head of healthy hair.Stress
Another, usually temporary form, of hair loss can be bought on by stress. We are all aware of the significant impact on our wider health that stress can cause. Stress can push follicles into the resting phase causing a higher than usual amount of hair to be lost during brushing and washing. Treat the cause and you will cure the symptoms.Vegetarianism
While a vegetarian or vegan diet is extremely healthy in many regards it can leave your diet short of some of the nutrients essential for good hair growth. Iron in particular can be in short supplyMedication
It is understandable that when your Doctor is talking to you on serious health matters like blood pressure or depression that hair loss, or the potential for it, takes a back seat. But blood thinners, used to prevent clots, or beta blockers can cause you to lose hair. Maybe more of a surprise is that everyday medications also present a threat to hair. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's) can also cause hair to thin... which is probably OK until we tell you that this group of drugs include ibuprofen, one of the most popular non prescription drugs on the market.HIS Hair Clinic
As we said at the outset, the most likely cause for hair to thin is genetic - and whatever anyone tells you this is not currently treatable with anything but Minoxidil or Finasteride, with limited results, a lifelong commitment and side effects that need to be considered. But before you do anything it is important to be certain about what is causing your own hair to thin. If you would like to discuss your hair loss situation with one of our team of friendly experts simply complete the contact form at the side of this page, or click here to find your nearest clinic.Facial hair transplants on the rise
How does a facial hair transplant work?
A facial hair transplant usually uses the follicular unit extraction (FUE) process. This is a low risk, minimally invasive procedure in which the results are highly predictable. The FUE process works by moving healthy hairs from an area which has an abundance of hair to an area which is bald or hair growth is patchy. A local anaesthetic is applied and extracted hairs, which are known as hair grafts, are usually grafted from the back of the patients scalp. Experts aim to dig around the hair strands so they can free up tissue which will sustain the follicle. Then the grafts are planted onto the areas of the face where micro-slits are made in advance. High-precision tools are used for the entire process and the procedure is expected to last around four to six hours long. Although the initial hair strands from the procedure will shed within the first month, patients will eventually see an improvement in their hair growth. The full effects of the hair transplant can be seen within one year and the results can last up to twenty years.Home Remedies for Breast Tenderness
Breast tenderness can cause a lot of discomfort (especially while moving) as well as heaviness, soreness and increased sensitivity of the breasts. Breast tenderness refers to softness in the breast tissues accompanied by pain. It is common to experience breast tenderness just before your menstrual cycle, during pregnancy, while breastfeeding and after menopause. During these […]

Kerastem Claim Success in Hair Loss Trial
News out of San Diego reaches us that Kerastem have declared the Phase II trial of their hair loss treatment a success.. we look closer.
The Kerastem Methodology
It is not a process for everyone. Their three step process kicks off with removing "less than a cup" of your fat, a procedure they describe as minimally invasive... though that must surely depend on where they need to go to get a cupful of fat. Step 2 of the process is performed in a laboratory and sees the cup of your body fat, which is full they tell us of regenerative cells, refined. The stem cells are combined with the refined fat, your fat remember, to produce an enriched version before being put into a hypodermic needle and injected into your scalp. Kerastem believed that this application of your own stem cells in a nutritious soup of your own fat would trigger new growth.Phase II Trial
This week has seen Kerastem announce the results of their 6 month study of 70 patients. The study was carried out at US centres, it was randomised, single-blinded and a controlled clinic trial. The patients were split into three groups with two of the groups receiving the Kerastem treatment, that is the stem cells blended with the refined body fat. One of those groups received a low dose and the other a high dose with the third group receiving pure body fat only. The results showed that the group which just received body fat and the group which received the high dose version of the Kerastem treatment showed either no improvement in their condition or a reduction. It was the low dose group that saw some benefit. It's A Results Business
So what benefit did this low dose group see? The average increase was 29 terminal hairs per cm2 of scalp. The marketing people at Kerastem kindly do the maths required to inform us that this equates to 2,900 hairs per 100cm2 - and comparing that to the average hair transplant of 1,900 to 2,000 transplanted hairs (their figures). They also want to point out that for early hair loss transplants are an inappropriate treatment, the patient needs to wait until their hair loss has stopped progressing before an assessment can be done.HIS Hair Clinic
29 hairs per cm2 actually equates to a 17% increase. While this is to be applauded it still means that 83% of the hair loss is not coming back. How much of an improvement this would feel like in reality is questionable... we talk to so many men who shave or cut their hair very short as soon as they start to thin. Digging very deep into your pocket to achieve a 17% improvement seems a poor deal when a Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) costs less and achieves so much more. Understanding PRP
PRP aims to encourage new hair growth by stimulating the hair’s follicles. It does this by inserting white blood cells, contained in our plasma, into the scalp. To start, blood is drawn from the patient’s arm, before it’s placed into a Centrifuge machine. This spins the blood to separate the red blood cells and the plasma. Once the plasma has been successfully separated, it is directly injected into the scalp. There, it gets to work stimulating the hair follicles. As it uses the patient’s own blood, there’s a low risk the body will see it as a foreign object, which means the immune system will not attack the cells. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes and injections are given across the balding area of the scalp, covering every half an inch. It has so far proven to be quite effective, but it is a treatment you will need to keep enduring in order to maintain results. You’ll need to have a repeat procedure every month for around four months, before dropping down to every three to six months. Are there better options out there?
While PRP presents very few risks and it has shown to be effective, the fact it needs to be carried out continuously to maintain results makes it an expensive and inconvenient treatment option. There are other treatments available which can provide the same, if not better results, which do not require such strict maintenance. If you’re looking for the same type of results, hair transplants or laser therapy could be an ideal alternative. If you’re happy to simply cover up the issue and achieve a more shaven look, SMP could be ideal. It’s important to talk through your options with a specialist as treatments will work slightly differently from person to person. The treatment recommended to you will depend upon the severity of the hair loss, as well as the type of hair loss you’re experiencing.Stress, Motorbikes, Marquez and Hair Loss
How stress affects the hair
After seeking advice from the MotoGP doctor in hospital, Marquez was told he needed to reduce his stress levels. The doctor claimed he had too much stress within the body and this was affecting not just his hair, but his overall health. The star took it on board and changed his mentality. His hair loss issues have started to disappear, highlighting the impact stress can have on a person’s hair. It’s long been known that increased levels of stress can contribute towards hair loss. It largely triggers a lot of the hair to enter into the resting phase, which eventually falls out together. This results in noticeable bald spots, or at least thinning of the hair.Treatment for stress related hair loss
The main thing to remember about stress related hair loss is that it’s usually temporary. The hair will start to recover once the stress has been eliminated. It’s also worth noting that it will rarely cause total baldness and it is only severe levels of stress which can pose a problem. While it is only temporary, there are treatments available which can help you cover up the problem until it rectifies itself. Minoxidil is potentially the most effective solution, available in two different strengths. However, there’s also medications which could help. If you suspect you are suffering with stress related hair loss, it’s worth seeking advice from a specialist. There are many potential causes of hair loss and each requires a different form of treatment. Which foods should you be eating?
According to experts, there are certain foods which could help to prevent seasonal hair loss, or at least slow it down to make it less noticeable. It’s no secret that diet can play a huge part in the health of your hair so logically, making a few changes could significantly help. The foods recommended by experts include:- Strawberries
- Lentils
- Foods high in Vitamin C
What else can you do?
As seasonal hair loss is only temporary, you won’t need permanent treatments such as hair transplants or SMP. However, there are some great effective temporary treatments on offer. Minoxidil is perhaps the most popular due to its affordability and effectiveness. Sold in two different strengths, this topical treatment is super-easy to apply, and it’s approved by the FDA. If the hair loss is a little more severe, medications such as Finasteride could prove more useful. Before crediting seasonal changes to your hair loss, it’s worth seeking a proper diagnosis. There’s so many different causes of hair loss and it’s crucial to identify the exact cause before treatment can prove effective.Do women really prefer men with beards?
Studies reveal women do prefer beards
While there’s certainly some women who still prefer the fresh, shaven look, the majority do tend to lean more towards men with beards. This isn’t just an observation either – many studies carried out over the years have revealed a woman’s preference for beards is scientifically backed up. One survey carried out by a popular dating site, revealed out of almost 2500 women, more than 60% were drawn to a man’s facial hair. It also revealed women prefer beards over moustaches. Another study which was published within the Journal of Evolutionary Behaviour, revealed the length of the beard also matters to women. This large study looked at the opinions of 8520 women and it revealed men with light stubble were seen as great for a one-night stand, whereas heavier stubble was more attractive for those looking for a fling. Men with full, thick beards on the other hand, were considered much better for commitment. These are just two studies which revealed how women view beards and what part they play in the selection of a partner. What about men who can’t grow beards?
Beards are considered a natural, manly symbol, so what happens if you can’t actually grow one? Well, the good news is there are treatments available that can help. Most popular is the beard transplant. These have grown significantly in popularity. They may be expensive, but the results are long-lasting, and they also have the added bonus of enabling men to choose what style of beard they want. Now, beard transplants won’t be suitable for everyone, so it is important for men to talk through their options with a hair specialist. It could be SMP would be a better option if there aren’t enough suitable donor hairs available. So, if you’re struggling to grow a full beard why not book a consultation with a hair specialist today and see whether a beard transplant could be the answer.Should You Be Making A Date With This Hair Loss Cure?
Dates. Festive fare if ever there was one. But who knew it has properties that should put it at the top of your shopping list if you have hair loss?
The Not So Humble Date
As a species humans have been cultivating dates for a very long time. There is archaeological evidence of dates being cultivated for food as far back as 7,500 years ago in eastern Arabia. While it is believed to have first been grown by humans in what is now Iraq, it is hard to be certain. Partly because the date has been around for an estimated 50 million years but also because they were transported efficiently to be grown in just about every region of the world where the climate provided enough warmth... and they need a lot of warmth. Pictures of date palms on frescoes show that they were popular garden plants in ancient Rome.. despite it not being warm enough for the plant to fruit. The ancient Egyptians also made wine from them and the Bible tells us that the tree was heavily cultivated for food in ancient Israel.Nutrition
The fruit is mostly sugar when ripe, it makes up about 80% of the total. The good news is that this is not refined sugar, but it is still sugar so you will need to be conscious of just how many you are putting away. But the rest of the constituents are a terrific list and make the date one of the healthiest fruits available. Along with the protein and fibre you will get a shot of iron, boron, cobalt, copper, fluorine, magnesium, manganese, selenium and zinc. It is a fantastic list of minerals each coming with recognised health benefits.Hair Loss Helper
It strikes us as great news that this seasonal treat is a positive addition to a hair loss sufferers diet. Pantothenic acid, also know as vitmamin B5, plays a crucial role in hair production and dates are a terrific natural source. Even better that you are doing some good for your iron levels, adding some fibre and treating yourself to the full range of benefits enjoyed by regular date eaters... from protecting against tooth decay to improving your love life and much more besides.HIS Hair Clinic
We hope that this encourages you to reach for the dates this holiday, there will almost certainly be some in your vicinity.. and if there aren't maybe you should take it on yourself to get some in.
